Internship Down Under
1995
Prior to working at Kodak, I arranged for a one-month
paid internship in Sydney, Australia. I worked
an approximate 40 hour work week at a stock footage
library, Film World. Here I did much the same
work as I did at Producers Library Service i.e.,
stock footage research and tape edit-assembly.
However, by now my interest in preservation had
been piqued. While in Australia I took the
opportunity to explore many film vaults, preservation
facilities and post-production labs. I was
most impressed with the National Film and Sound
Archives in Canberra and the Australian Archives
in Sydney. I was given VIP tours by Mark Nizette
and Guy Petherbridge respectively. As I was to
become an employee of ProTek (Kodak's preservation
subsidiary), I represented the film vaults
and presented those interested with a copy of
our monthly newsletter as well as other pertinent
material. Upon my return I wrote a booklet in
the form of a journal, documenting my experience
and the state of preservation and post-production
in Australia.
