Where Will Your Money Go?

Ryerson University
The cost for the Master of Arts Program is $18,000CD per academic year. The estimated budget for tuition, books, independent study projects and cost of living expenses for the 2005-2006 academic year is not less than $30,000 USD. I can provide more financial details if requested.

Summer 2005 Internship
This is a mandatory (unpaid) internship required by the program. Typically, my plans are a bit complex compared to what the program had in mind. I will be using this opportunity to spring– board myself into my two-year thesis project. I will be working on a private/corporate collection of over 3,000 photographs and memorabilia from the Brown Family who started the First National Bank in Crown Point, Indiana. My intentions (for the thesis project) are to archive, both traditionally and digitally, the entire collection making it accessible to the family and the community, and the internet.

1) May will be spent at the Lake County Historical Society offering my services in the archives, learning about their cataloguing systems and conducting research on the Brown Family as well as the First National Bank, which is now Centier Bank.

2) June will be spent back in the Los Angeles area wrapping up some Preserving the Past™ business, and interning at Curatorial Assistance, Inc. learning database management for website/virtual museum development. I will be working on a collection of over 50,000 photographs by renown British photographer, E. O. Hoppé.

3) July will find me in Columbia, Pennsylvania, interning for Mr. & Mrs. Stark who own The Bank Museum, the only bank museum still in the building in which the bank originally was in the mid-1800’s. Nora Stark’s grandfather started the First National Bank in Columbia. (At that time, banks were franchises.)

Where I need financial assistance is in the following areas: living expenses, hotels, travel, rental cars. Equipment: Laptop computer, scanner, slide scanner, video camera, archival supplies.

Thesis Project Spring/Summer 2006
James-Paul Brown Family and Corporate Photographic Collection
As briefly explained in the Summer Internship section, this is a collection of over 3,000 photo– graphs and memorabilia from the Brown Family who started the First National Bank in Crown Point, Indiana. My intentions (for the thesis project) are to archive, both traditionally and digitally, the entire collection making it accessible to the family and the community, and the internet.

I hope to secure corporate sponsorship from Centier Bank as well as the Brown Family Estate for the majority of this project. However, I will need as much as I can get if I am to do this the way I see it, which includes establishing an actual museum and a website. Please check back for a written financial proposal or send a request.

Preserving the Past™
I thought I’d be able to continue running my business while in school, but the demands are so time consuming such is not the case. I plan on re-launching my business on a grand scale upon my graduation in October 2006. At that time I will need start-up money so that I can establish a presence (i.e., building/studio and all that entails, including equipment.)
